The Research Support Center (ZFS) is led by the Vice Rector for Research and works closely with the research offices of the faculties to optimize the coordination and support of research activities and to promote the networking and integration of research funding across all faculties.
As a central coordination unit, the Research Support Center facilitates third-party funding acquisition and oversees the university’s research portfolio by acting as an interface between research institutions and funding bodies, providing scientists with access to valuable resources and expert knowledge. The Research Support Center actively supports networking activities with national and international researchers and research institutions. Regular research team meetings with the vice deans and vice-rector for research contribute to strengthening interdisciplinary collaboration at SFU.
Another focus of the Research Support Center is the “capacity building” of the university. The university has expanded its presence in the national and international project landscape by intensifying contact with national and international funding agencies. The Research Support Center organizes research newsletters, training, webinars, and informational events that give researchers an overview of the national and EU funding landscape. Participation in events organized by funding bodies—such as FFG, OeAD, FWF, and Horizon EU—helps understand current research guidelines and third-party funding calls at the institutional level and enables the submission of high-quality third-party project proposals.
The responsibilities of the Research Support Center include:
- Organizing and conducting workshops and seminars on current trends and opportunities in research funding
- Advising on the identification and selection of suitable funding programs based on individual research projects
- Providing support for grant applications through comprehensive guidance on submission conditions, funding options, and legal aspects such as collaboration agreements
- Assisting throughout the project implementation phase, including support with project monitoring, reporting, and financial management
- Supporting the planning and organization of scientific events, symposia, and conferences to promote scientific exchange
- Initiating and implementing dissemination and publication strategies as well as public relations, science communication, and transfer activities within the framework of the Third Mission
- Strengthening international collaboration and networking through support with the submission of third-party funding projects to international funding programs
- Implementing and maintaining research documentation to track and ensure transparency of projects and results
- Promoting early-career researchers through targeted programs and mentoring initiatives
- Developing and implementing measures to improve research reporting to ensure comprehensive documentation and reporting.Formularende
