The particular specialisation of Sigmund Freud Private University Vienna in the fields of psychology, psychotherapy science and medicine enable a constant exchange of knowledge between these disciplines. This also paves the way for extensive cross-faculty research.

Special efforts are being made to identify multi- or inter-faculty research topics and to better network SFU researchers at the site of institutional accreditation as well as at the sites of implementation. In this context, the research project “Foresighted research. Complex questions for the future – multidisciplinary answers” was carried out.

It should be particularly emphasised that the Faculty of Psychotherapy Science conducts research with all the existing faculties in Vienna. In addition, there was also a joint project with the Institute for Cultural Anthropology/Volkskunde at Johannes Guttenberg University Mainz on the avalanche disaster of Blons in the Great Walser Valley in 1954.

The faculties of Psychology and Psychotherapy sciences, which are most closely linked in terms of subject matter, also produced the largest number of cross-faculty publications. The number of joint publications by these faculties has already reached 35 (as of May 2023). Both faculties have almost as many joint publications with the Faculty of Medicine. There are now 19 joint publications between the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Psychotherapy Sciences and 34 joint publications between the Faculties of Medicine and Psychology.
